Case Study: From Cramped WC to Full Bathroom and Shower Room – Nantwich

This project came to Prof Heat Services from a homeowner in Nantwich who wanted to make better use of a cramped downstairs WC. The brief was straightforward in principle but involved a significant amount of work in practice – extend the existing space, add a proper shower room with a niche, and fit a floating toilet and sink throughout. The result speaks for itself.

The Brief

The client had a small downstairs WC that was functional but underused and out of step with the rest of the property. The goal was to expand the footprint of the room, create a separate shower enclosure, and fit a high-specification suite throughout – floating wall-hung toilet, concealed cistern, floating vanity unit, and a fully tiled shower with a built-in niche and thermostatic controls. Every element needed to be hidden, clean and finished to a high standard.

Before the Work Started

Before any of the finished work could begin, the room needed to be stripped back completely. Existing plasterwork came off, the floor was cleared, and the full extent of the new layout was mapped out. This stage is where decisions about pipe runs, waste positions and stud wall locations are made – getting this right at the start is what makes the finished installation clean and serviceable for years to come.

First Fix – Getting the Pipework Right

With the room stripped, Prof Heat Services set about the first fix – running copper pipework through the new stud walls, positioning the concealed cistern frame correctly, and routing all supplies to their final positions before anything was boarded or tiled. Insulation was packed into the stud walls at this stage to reduce noise from the cistern and improve the overall thermal performance of the room. A laser level was used throughout to ensure everything was set perfectly plumb before boarding began – with a wall-hung toilet, precision at first fix is non-negotiable.

The Finished Shower Room

The shower enclosure was finished with large format concrete-effect wall panels, frameless glass, and brushed bronze fittings throughout. A thermostatic shower system with separate volume controls feeds both the fixed rainfall head and the hand shower. The built-in niche was positioned and illuminated to sit flush with the wall surface, giving a clean shelf without any protruding fitment. The tray is a low-profile white resin unit with a discreet centre drain – the kind of detail that only works if the waste was positioned correctly at first fix stage.

The Finished WC and Vanity

The WC area was finished with a wall-hung pan and concealed cistern behind a furniture-grade panel, topped with a shelf and fitted with a rose gold flush plate. The floating vanity unit sits alongside it, finished in a matching concrete-effect wrap with a white inset basin and brushed brass tap. A round mirror, heated towel rail in a matching bronze finish, and LED strip lighting along the ceiling perimeter complete the room. The marble-effect floor tile with ambient underlighting beneath the toilet pan is a detail that makes the whole space feel considered rather than just functional.
